Social StudiesFirst social studies test next Tuesday (10/20). We still have a couple of topics to review. All answers should be available in their notes by Friday (they should already have most of them). We'll be reviewing on Friday, so bring your questions! Study guide is available online. It's also time to think about whether you'll be running for class office. We will also be developing a class "court" to punish classroom offenders.
In fifth grade we study the persecuted and the disenfranchised. We start off with a study of the Constitution and how it shapes our country - and have our own class election! Using that as a basis we'll then look at the persecution of the plains indians, slavery, women's suffrage, immigration, the holocaust, the treatment of the Japanese and Italian Americans during World War II, and if we have time civil rights. All of this fits into our larger theme of thinking about how we treat other people.
